COMPLAINTS / LEGAL ACTIONS AGAINST VENDING COMPANIES OR LOCATION COMPANIES

Here you can find links with snippets of information regarding legal action taken against any vending machine sales or location companies or individuals related to the vending industry that I find. This is by no means a complete list as all information is not available to me. Keep in mind, that just because a legal action was taken against a company or individual, it does not mean that they were convicted or found guilty, but it should give one pause before making any decisions regarding that company.
Some of these are old, however-some of the same individuals are still in the business running under different company names (and in some cases using a different personal identity altogether).

This website is for individuals to post their own experiences or information. You can glean some information here, but do beware that often on sites where individuals can post, sometimes it is a another company's competition trashing them. Personally, I take some of the postings with a grain of salt. Being in the industry, I recognise some names that do work for some companies building them up and their competitors trashing them. Normally, if you see a lot of complaints by various people on the same company, you can usually put some stock in those complaints. You can search on their website for other companies or individuals by name. And don't forget...even Walmart gets complaints. Weigh out all of the factors.

Specialty Marketing IS SELECTIVE CONSULTING! Bluffton South Carolina
Selective Consulting
301 Central Avenue Suite 242
South Carolina, 29926
U.S.A.

A friend of mine just got a list of locating companies to call but was told to call Selective Consulting... Since I had been burned before by a locating company he had me call to screen them out and I about wet my pants when none other than Julie answered the phone and passed me through to Jennifer. They recommended Ron Davis (didn't even recognize my voice) one of their finest locators and blah blah blah.
I verified some more things and my heart sank as I had thought VendStar would no longer use Speciality (who ripped me off) but that's not true - they are using the same people with a differn't name - SELECTIVE CONSULTING.
SPECIALTY MARKETING IS NOW SELECTIVE MARKETING! CALL THEM AND SEE WHO'S VOICE ANSWERS! SAME THIEVES DIFFEREN'T NAME STILL LOCATING VENDSTAR MACHINES - OH MY GOD!
SPECIALTY MARKETING HAS CHANGED THEIR NAME AND IS USING THE SAME ILLEGAL CONRACT - GUARANTEEING REVENUE!

Residents say they're victims of vending scam

By David Wren - The Sun News
-
The 40 vending machines Machado bought aren't generating anywhere near the $3,000 per month he says he was promised. In some cases, the machines don't make enough money to cover the cost of the candy and nuts that fill them. Such stories are all too familiar to the Federal Trade Commission, which announced a program last year, called Project False Hopes, that targets bogus business opportunities and work-at-home schemes. Cornerstone Marketing of Bluffton is one of the placement services targeted by Project False Hopes. That is the company Buckner worked with. Machado worked with a second company, Specialty Marketing of Hilton Head Island. That company is on the FTC's radar screen, according to FTC lawyer Harold Kirtz, because it is run by a former employee of Cornerstone Marketing who also is related to that company's owner, Christopher Putnam. The FTC has not taken any action against Specialty Marketing and Kirtz would not say whether the federal government is investigating the Hilton Head Island business. "We are aware of the existence of Specialty Marketing," Kirtz said. continued Myrtle Beach Online

Complaints on Two Vending Machine Locating Companies

Dallas, TX, February 1, 2005 - Despite hard work by small business owners, business can come to a halt when a service provider they've hired doesn't follow through.
Across the country, individuals and small businesses that own vending machines for candy, soda, snacks, and other items, are complaining to the BBB in Dallas about two local vending machine locating services: Worldwide Locating Co. and Professional Locating Co. According to complaints,
We started this venture about 18 mos ago. The machines are very good quality, the actual route of a few machines we have are fine, and kinda fun sometimes. However, the problem with these things is that it’s freakin’ hard to get the machines “located” in the first place. When originally buying the machines, I was assured several times that locators will be “all over us” continued Dallas BBB

Promised Location Services Not Found
FTC Alleges Companies Made Deceptive Claims About Locations and Earnings

The Federal Trade Commission is charging a “location services” operator with falsely promising to find locations for their customers’ vending machines and display racks and making false earnings claims. The operators, working under the names Prime Time Marketing, Prestige Marketing, Metropolitan Placement Services, and Best Locations, promised customers they would secure “profitable locations” in “high volume” or “high traffic” continued Federal Trade Commission

Please do not let the horror stories that you read here and there turn you off from getting into vending. Unfortunately, people don't always make posts or write letters and webpages when things have all gone well. You rarely hear about those because things went as the client expected them to and therefore, nothing of note to rage on about.
Vending is a good business to get into. You simply must do your homework ahead of time and be prepared with as much info as is possible. The vending industry can be very profitible for the diligent. Were it not, you would not see so many vending machines everywhere you go. Unfortunately, the vending industry is so vast, that there is room for all types in it...both, the honest and the unscrupulous. EVERYONE that gets into vending NEEDS to know how to get their own locations, even if you do hire a location company at first. You will need to know this every bit as much as you'll need to know how to open your machine to stock it or empty your coins. And price shop for your machines!
